India’s first blockchain-based vaccine verification system launched

The Indian Ministry of Health has launched a blockchain-powered vaccine verification portal called “VaxChain.” Using QR-coded vaccine certificates stored on a decentralized ledger, it prevents forgery and duplication. The system also allows employers, travel authorities, and healthcare providers to validate vaccine status offline. Initially focused on COVID-19 and measles-rubella campaigns, the rollout will include all national immunization programs by 2026.
